Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan is a Oral Pathologist at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal and the Director of Internatonal Affairs and Collaborations at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. As a professor in the department of oral pathology, he is actively involved in teaching and supervising postgraduates. In his role as Director, International Collaborations, he is involved in fostering academic and research cooperation globally. Dr. Radhakrishnan began his career as a resident oral pathologist in 1996. He is the first staff of MCODS to be awarded the PhD for his work on the “Molecular Pathogenesis of Oral Cancer by Epigenetic Mechanism”. In 2013 he was selected for the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Sheffield, UK for “Understanding the Functional Role of Retinoic Acid Receptor Beta2 in the Development of Oral Cancer”. He is the only Oral Pathologist from India to secure the Wellcome Trust Fellowship for his project titled “Epithelial Reprograming of HOX Genes by Epigenetic Mechanisms and its Implication in Oral Cancer”. Dr. Radhakrishnan is active in oral cancer research, education, and outreach activities nationally and internationally. He has to his credit nearly 80 research publications, a patent registered in the India Patent Office and chapters in the Shafers Text Book of Oral Pathology. In his role as Director, International Relations, he has established several landmark agreements for education and research with Universities of great repute. Dr. Radhakrishnan is committed to addressing the oral health priorities including oral pre-cancer and oral cancer, among vulnerable adolescents who are exposed to the risk of tobacco products.
