Dr. Deeksha Bhartiya is an entrepreneur and founder of Genomiki Solutions, a young start-up that aims to provide bioinformatics data analysis services. Dr. Bhartiya completed her Ph.D. from the Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology, Delhi, and pursued her post-doctoral studies at Karolinska Institute, Sweden. She has a research experience of over a decade in Genome informatics and has expertise in analyzing and interpreting Next Generation Sequencing datasets.
As part of the “Transition to Indian industry” Series, the Sci-ROI team conversed with Dr. Bhartiya, learning from her scientific journey from her Ph.D. to obtaining seed funds for her start-up. Her advice to the young researchers dreaming to take that leap of faith is that doubts & second thoughts are common in the journey of Startups, asking for support when needed and preparing yourself during the Ph.D. or postdoc phase can help the researchers transit into entrepreneurship. She feels this is a good time to start the entrepreneurial journey with the Indian government’s ‘make in India’ initiative providing more funding opportunities and encouraging more academia-industry collaborations.
