September 2024
The first edition of the Sci-ROI annual event in Europe took place on September 11, 2023, at the Edinger Institute in Frankfurt, Germany. The event was inaugurated by the Consulate General of India (Frankfurt) and the Embassy of India (Berlin). Dr. Ann-Christin Hau and Dr. Stefan Liebner from the Edinger Institute provided significant support in organizing the event.Heads and directors from leading universities and research institutes in India attended, presenting the history, legacy, mission, and vision of their institutions. They also addressed various questions about the application process. One-on-one sessions between employers and potential employees were arranged to facilitate direct conversations.Participants reported that they gained a clear understanding of the requirements and process for applying to the institutes. The importance of networking was emphasized throughout the event. Over 80% of attendees expressed high satisfaction, and about 70% indicated they would like to attend again next year. Almost all participants expressed interest in joining Sci-ROI’s upcoming online recruitment drives, which will connect applicants with participating institutes actively looking to hire.
The 9th Sci-ROI Annual Meeting 2024 took place on September 14-15, 2024, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. This annual event fostered collaboration between scientists and academicians from India and the U.S., aiming to bridge professional opportunities across both countries. The meeting brought together representatives from 20 institutions, with 14 speakers attending in person and 10 joining virtually. The event was supported by 6 on-site volunteers and 14 working behind the scenes to ensure its success. A total of 55 participants attended from outside the host institution, along with 30 from St. Jude. 36 prospective faculty candidates had personal interactions with institute heads from India, leading to over 100 scheduled sessions.
Speakers and panelists represented a diverse range of academic and research institutions, including IISc Bangalore, IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi, IIT BHU, IISER Pune, TIFR Mumbai/Hyderabad, CDFD, CSIR, Shiv Nadar University, Amity University, Ashoka University, Azim Premji University, SRM Institute and BITS Pilani. Additional participation came from the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, DBT, and the Consulate General of India in Atlanta.
The meeting covered topics such as faculty research, institutional collaborations, and cross-border opportunities for scientists. Sessions included faculty introductions, institutional insights, poster sessions, and networking activities, offering a dynamic platform for dialogue. The event concluded with informal networking, offering participants the chance to forge meaningful connections and explore career opportunities in both India and the U.S.
