2023 Sci-ROI: Blogs

I am a molecular biologist with profound experience in infectious disease research. As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Dept. of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), I am currently working to understand the mechanistic aspect of an antibacterial peptide which is produced by Bacteriophage lambda during lytic growth and blocks cell division of its host, Escherichia coli. My ongoing research is supported by the National Institute of Health, USA. The results of this work should help in identifying distinct targets of antimicrobial peptides in FtsZ, the key stone of bacterial cell division and other divisome proteins to expand the scope of divisome-targeting compounds. I became aware of SciROI in 2021 from one of my friends who has been an integral part of this non-profit U.S. based volunteer-driven organization and recently moved back to India. As I have always been motivated about returning to India and seeking permanent positions in the Indian scientific ecosystem, I highly acknowledge Sci-ROI’s contribution in exploring collaborative opportunities at the institutional level, establishing international collaborations and networking possibilities around academic-and industrial sectors. As a Sci-ROI member, I look forward towards helping Indian researchers abroad in finding a path to transition in Indian academic and non-academic sectors. I aim towards organizing scientific workshops, webinars and writing blogs that could shed light on potential career options.
